The summer approaches, and with it comes the end of a school year filled with celebrations, graduations, parties, and transitions, some joyful, some bittersweet. It’s easy to get caught up in the flurry of planning and activity that surrounds these milestones. It’s just as easy to forget to pause and truly take them in.
This past weekend, hundreds of family members and friends gathered to celebrate the spring concerts of our adult bands and orchestras. As rehearsals gave way to performances and musicians made their way onto the stage, they were welcomed by enthusiastic applause from spouses, children, neighbors, grandchildren, and friends. It was a joyful celebration of all that these dedicated musicians had accomplished throughout the year, and they were wonderful.
“No matter how down or grumpy I am, after a rehearsal or concert my mood has improved 180 degrees and I just feel great!” – Marc Wey
Those of us fortunate enough to witness the concerts were deeply moved, not only by the performances themselves, but by the sense of accomplishment, connection, and support that filled the room.
As summer approaches and the pace of life continues to accelerate, we hope these moments serve as a reminder to pause, reflect, and celebrate what has been achieved. The close of one season is also the beginning of another, bringing new opportunities, new experiences, and new reasons to gather together through music.
