Old Blind Dogs have been a driving force in Scotland's roots revival since forming in Aberdeen in 1992. Four musicians from very different backgrounds came together with a shared aim: to showcase the rich tradition of songs and tunes from the North East of Scotland on an international stage.
Like many pioneering Scottish folk bands, the lineup has changed over the years, but the core values at the band's musical heart remain strong. Original member Jonny Hardie (fiddle/vocals) is joined by Aaron Jones (cittern/guitar/vocals), Donald Hay (percussion/vocals), and Mike Katz and/or Elias Alexander (pipes/whistles), collectively forming one of the hottest live acts on the traditional Scottish music scene. Their expertly arranged performances blend traditional and modern songs and tunes with soaring fiddle, driving cittern, dynamic percussion, and the Great Highland Bagpipes.
Over more than three decades and fourteen studio albums, Old Blind Dogs have drawn on influences from rock, reggae, and Middle Eastern rhythms while never losing sight of their traditional roots. Their most recent album, Knucklehead Circus, was released to widespread acclaim. The band won the Scots Trad Music Awards Folk Band of the Year and were inducted into the Scottish Trad Music Hall of Fame in 2020.
