North Coast Strings Fall 2017 Session

October 17 - February 27, 2018

North Coast Strings (NCS) Adult Orchestra is an educational program for adults (21 and over) who would like to learn or refresh their skills on violin, viola, cello or bass in a non-competitive environment. It appeals to both the beginning musician as well as the intermediate player who has some experience on their instrument but is not quite ready to audition for a community orchestra.

It appeals to both the beginning musician as well as the intermediate player who has some experience on their instrument but is not quite ready to audition for a community orchestra.

There are two groups available. Participants can join one or both:

1. Beginning Ensemble — Tuesdays, 5:00 - 6:45 PM

Conducted by Jennifer Albrent, this group is open to musicians with no or very little experience. Focus is on skill building as well as some limited repertoire.

2. Full Orchestra —Tuesdays, 7:00 - 9:00 PM

Conducted by Paula Simmons, professional violist and co-owner of The Violin Shop, this group is for players with one or more years of musical experience. Occasional sectional rehearsals led by coaches: Mary Gerard (Violin 1), Judy Coker (Violin 2), Jennifer Albrent (Viola), Gordon Grubbs (Cello), Bert Turetzky (Bass). Rehearsals focus on repertoire and sectionals focus on skill building as it applies to the repertoire.

  • Dec 5, 12
  • Jan 9, 23, 30 The groups give two joint concerts each year.
  • Feb 6, 13, 20, 27 Final Concert Date: TBD Mira Costa College Concert Hall 

Fees

  • Fall Session: $195
    Credit Cards and cash accepted; please make checks payable to the Museum of Making Music.
    This program fee is non-refundable and there will be no refunds or credits for missed sessions.

Music

The Museum will LEND all participants sheet music for the session. This music must be returned at the end of the session. Please make markings in pencil and erase before returning. If you would like to purchase the music, we will provide the website for the music selections and you may purchase on your own.

Scholarships

Photo/Video Release

By participating, you grant permission to the Museum of Making Music and/or NAMM to use photographs or videos obtained during your participation in any North Coast Strings rehearsal or concert in any promotional, educational or other materials produced by or for the Museum of Making Music and hereby waive any and all right to control inspect, or approve such usage.
