Audiences of all Ages Learn the Benefits and Heritage of Music Making

Created on Thursday, November 3, 2011 - 2:12 pm

summercampThe Museum of Making Music’s dedication to introducing visitors to the world of music making expands beyond our informative galleries, interactive displays and special exhibitions. The Museum has developed several educational programs that offer audiences of all ages an opportunity to explore their own music making capabilities in a fun and informative atmosphere.

Kids of all ages have a chance to visit the Museum and discover their musicality through our Preschool Fieldtrip program – which gives children ages three to five an interactive tour of the Museum and introduces them to instruments like the cello, saxophone and piano – and our K-12 MusicVentures Fieldtrip program. During a MusicVentures Fieldtrip students are given a customized tour and participate in music making by jamming on the instruments in the Museum’s new interactive gallery or joining a facilitator-led drum circle. Thanks to our recent renovation, the educational experience for elementary school children also includes a look at music from around the world in our new Global Spotlight feature.

The Museum also hosts youth camps and workshops, including the annual Summer Music Camp, which gives children ages eight to 18 a chance to develop their skills in an educational environment. But the fun isn’t just reserved for children. Adults are also given a chance to explore their musicality through the Museum’s educational programs.

The North Coast Strings Orchestra, a unique adult symphony orchestra combining the sounds of strings, wind instruments and percussion, is designed to be an entry point for adults who want to learn to play a stringed instrument. Our North Coastal New Horizons Band offers adults over the age of 50 a chance to play a concert band instrument and perform with other beginning musicians. The Museum of Making Music believes people of any age can connect with the world of music and aims to educate the community through our many outreach programs.
