This week marks the first full week of the Museum Renovation Project. By Thursday, June 9, the Museum’s 5th gallery was completely empty of artifacts and display items as demolition crews came in to begin work.
Workers began tearing down the walls that once defined our merchandise inventory closet and kiosk media room. The new space will be the future location of interactive stations and multimedia displays. By the end of the day, the carpeting in the gallery was completely gone, the stages that once showcased innovations from the 1980s through 1990s were removed and the wall separating the former interactive area had been torn down.
Additionally workers cut a channel in the concrete floor of gallery five. This channel will be for cabling of the interactive kiosk.
The special exhibition area is beginning to take shape as well as the new wall is being framed out.
Our first reaction was: "Wow! Look at all the space!" Not to worry, as this space will be quickly replaced by a slew of new interactive features and the most recent story of popular music, instrument innovations and more!
