Museum members enjoyed a sneak peek of "The Ukulele and You!" exhibition prior to its public opening on Saturday, August 11. Music was provided by Moonlight Beach Ukulele Strummers as well as Brandon Cruz and Da Che'lu Boyz.

Museum visitors learned about "The Ukulele and You!" firsthand with exhibition co-curators and historian Fred Fallin. Music was provided by the Moonlight Beach Ukulele Strummers. Following the reception, ukulele performers from across the country presented a uniqely uke concert.

At 1 PM, historian and ukulele advocate Fred Fallin presented, "Voice of the Ukulele: The Joy & Wonder of the Ukulele in our Musical Past, 1915-1950," a thrilling and musical journey through the history of the ukulele. At 3 PM: Guests discovered "Fun with Four Strings: An Informal Introduction to All Things Uke" Workshop with Jim & Liz Beloff as they answered questions about the basics and history of playing the ukulele as well as the climate of the modern day ukulele culture

At 1 PM, Jim Beloff introduced the basics of playing the ukulele including holding, tuning, strumming and making the chords. At 3 PM, Jim was joined by ukulele experts John King, Jim Tranquada and special guest Lyle Ritz for a panel discussion on all things uke. Following the discussion, the group presented a concert performance! Tickets are $15; $12 for Museum members.

On January 26, 2008 at 7 PM, the Museum of Making Music celebrated the longevity and popularity of the ukulele with Bill Tapia (who, at 100, is one of the world's oldest living ukulele performers!) with the next generation of ukulele superstars, including: James Hill, Victoria Vox, Joel Eckhaus, Sid Hausman and Travis Harrelson. Andy Andrews from the Santa Cruz Ukulele Club emceed the event.
