|
While the Museum would like all local students experience this rich field trip, we understand that it’s not financially feasible for many low-income schools. Committed to finding ways to reach students whose daily life lacks the benefit of music, the Museum launched the Title One School Tour program. This initiative was developed to engage children from economically disadvantaged families by bringing third grade students from Title 1 schools to the Museum at no charge. Is My Class Eligible?
To qualify for the program, you must meet all of the following criteria:
While we wish we could welcome all students to the Museum at no charge, our funding limits the number of students that can participate. By limiting the program to third grade, we can impact a new group of students each year. The selected districts are located in North San Diego County and are in close proximity to the Museum. If you do not meet the above criteria you are still welcome to book a field trip with your own transportation and will receive a group admission rate. How Do I Participate?
Contact Katrina Sturgis at 760-438-5996, ext 219 for more information or to book your tour. Field trips will only take place between September 1, 2010 and January 31, 2011. Due to the high volume of requests, your reservation MUST BE MADE BY NOVEMBER 1, 2010. We will do our best to accomodate your class but availability cannot be guaranteed.
Here’s what teachers are saying about the Title One School Tour program:
“It is a great experience for the kids. Since the budget cuts many of the arts have been eliminated.” “We loved how organized the presentation was and many students left expressing their interest in music and wanting to play music.” “The free transportation is huge for our school. Thank you!” “The students from our school do not have many enlightenment opportunities. This experience at the museum was particularly meaningful.” “This great exposure to music is sorely lacking in our curriculum. Thank you for making this available!”
