North Coast Strings

North Coast Strings is a musical ensemble designed to be an entry point for adults who want to learn to play a stringed instrument (violin, viola, cello, bass) or for those who have played in the past, but haven’t picked up their instrument in a number of years.  The orchestra is hosted by the Museum of Making Music and directed by Paula Simmons.

NEW Pre-session For the "Beginner"
Beginner
PRE-SESSION  September 7, 9, 14, 16, 21, 23, 28, 30
This pre-session will be an invaluable tool for those that have no musical background. The basics, including holding the instrument, developing sound through proper bow technique and reading musical notation will be the focus of our September session. Although there are current members of the orchestra who "jumped right in at the deep end", it is our hope that this will help raise the comfort and confidence level of all beginning string players.

FULL SESSION

October 5, 12, 19, 26

November 2, 9, 16, 30 (no rehearsals Thanksgiving week)

December 9, 14 (no rehearsals December 21 and 28)

January 4, 11, 18, 25

Winter Concert Date To Be Anounced

The Saxton Family Foundation provides funds to purchase level-appropriate music for the group to rehearse and perform. This music library is housed at the Museum of Making Music and is named in memory of William and Violet Saxton. This grant also enables the group to commission original compositions from local composers who have an interest in composing for beginning string orchestra.
