The Museum of Making Music is a proud participant of San Diego Museum Month. During the entire month of February 2010, individuals can pick up a FREE Museum Month Pass at Macy’s to receive half-off admission at 39 San Diego County museums all month long. Guests with a pass may bring up to three people with them to any participating museum to receive half-off, too!
Our drumming friends (Christine
Stevens, Sundiata Kata, Frank Lazarro and Kat Fulton) are collaborating
with the Drumming up HOPE for Haiti initiative. They'll be
facilitating a community drum circle in San Diego on February 11,
2010 at 8 PM at the World Beat Cultural Center, 2100 Park
Boulevard in Balboa Park.
All ages are welcome. No
experience is necessary. Instruments will also be provided or you may
bring your own. All proceeds go to the the American Red Cross Haiti

At 1 PM, The Museum kicks off its 2010 free concert series featuring ensembles from the Coastal Communities Concert Band. First to perform is the Pacific Wind Quintet, performing a mix of popular and classical selections. Members of the quintet include bassoonist Arnold Barron, oboist Beverly Haines, clarinetist Jim Reed, hornist Roger Haines and flautist Jessica Yui. This concert is FREE, with a $5 suggested donation.
On February 14th, 2010 at 6 PM, celebrate Valentine’s Day dinner at the Museum of Making Music while enjoying jazz music featuring vocalist Leslie Lewis, pianist Gerard Hagen, bassist Joel Hamilton, and drummer Jerry Kalaf. Join us as a couple and enjoy dinner with a loved one, or come solo to meet like-minded music lovers. This event is SOLD OUT.
On Tuesday, Feb 16 at 10:30 AM, The Museum of Making Music is pleased
to partner with Mainly Mozart to present San Diego Symphony violinist
Kate Hatmaker and pianist Ines Irawati for a special morning performance. Enjoy a short program including works by Kreisler, Debussy, Sarasate and Rachmaninoff. Allow yourself to be transported back to the days of "salon concerts" and interact with the musicians following the performance. This concert is FREE, thanks to a grant from the County of San Diego at the recommendation of supervisor Bill Horn.
At 2 PM, musician, composer and producer Allan Phillips is joined by leading musicians at the Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium to present “Latin Jazz & Beyond,” a fascinating musical journey of the history of Latin Jazz. This FREE event is part of the Gartner Concert Series.
At 7 PM, enjoy a screening of MIGHTY UKE
followed by a performance by top ukulele artist James Hill. Discover why so many people
of different nations, cultures, ages and musical tastes are turning to
the uke to express themselves, connect with the past, and with each
other! Tickets are $15, $12 for members.
Join David Borden, composer and founder of Mother Mallard’s Portable Masterpiece
Company (the world’s first synthesizer ensemble), along with performer, composer
and arranger Josh Oxford (Ithaca College), for an evening of musical insight,
performance, and inspiration. David Borden with Josh Oxford will perform David Borden’s composition
“Easter” (1970), with Borden playing on the Moog Voyager and Oxford performing on the MiniMoog.
