Are you looking for a summer day camp that combines instrument instruction and learning with group performance and fun? Then the Museum of Making Music’s Summer Music Camp is the perfect fit for your child! Designed for children ages 9 through 18, Summer Music Camp is a fun week where your child can jump-start their music lessons or enhance existing musical talent.

The camp features ensemble-based learning complemented by small-group breakout sessions. Leading the camp for the sixth year is Ed Roscetti, a Los Angeles drummer, composer, author, and educator. His five member teaching staff will help campers gain experience on drumset, hand drums, hand percussion, bass, guitar, and piano. These instruments are covered through two major components:

  • Breakout Sessions – Each day, campers will have an opportunity to study a featured instrument during “breakout sessions.” Featured instruments include drumset, hand percussion, electric and upright bass, acoustic and electric guitar, piano and vocals. These sessions allow participants a deeper understanding of the instrument through concentrated instruction and hands-on experience. The featured instruments are then incorporated into the small and large group ensembles. Breakout sessions are broken up by experience level. Campers are not required to attend all breakout sessions, only those of interest.

  • Ensemble Sessions – The group will be working towards a final all-camp performance featuring large and small group ensembles. Working in an ensemble helps students understand the relationship between the instruments, encourages communication and teamwork, and exposes them to being in a band. Campers are assigned instruments and ensembles based upon their age and experience and will work on technique, time feel, rhythmic and melodic phrasing, song form and improvisation. Ensembles explore the styles of rock, blues, hip-hop, funk, and world music.

All levels of experience are welcome to attend!  Family and friends are invited to an end-of-camp performance on Friday, July 20nd at 12PM.  Instruments are provided but campers are free to bring their own instruments as well.
