Description

The Museum of Making Music will host a night of Chapman Stick music featuring students from the 2012 Southern California Stick Seminar.  The event will be arranged like an "open mic" to give seminar attendees a chance to play both for each other and the public.

Featured artists include Tom Griesgraber and Bob Culbertson.

Bob Culbertson

culbertsonWith well over 100,000 albums sold and several hundred students to his credit, Bob Culbertson is one of the most influential touch soloists today. His musical style ranges from light jazz with folk and blues flavor to classical with Spanish, contemporary, and traditional influences.

Bob began playing the Stick over 30 years ago when introduced to the instrument by its inventor, Emmett Chapman. His recordings have been described as "...the sound of the Stick in its purest form."

Bob plays a variety of festivals, gigs, and concerts annually. He has toured nearly every state in the US as well as over fifteen countries worldwide including France, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and Japan.

His concerts include openings and performances with the popular acts; Robin Trower, Robben Ford, Eric Martin, Tuck and Patti, Steve Morse, Doobie Brothers, Allan Holdsworth, Sheila E, Leon Russell, Dave Mason, Babatunde Olatunji, Neal Schon, Alex De Grassi, Fattburger, Micky Hart, Zakir Hussain, Fog Hat, David Grisman, Abraxas, Robin Hitchcock, and members of Santana.

Tom Griesgraber

greisgraberTom picked up his first Stick in July of 1997. Originally a guitar player, Tom is an honors graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Tom performs as both a soloist and with several collaborative projects including the San Diego based Agent 22 with drummer/didj player Ryan Moran (of Slightly Stoopid), an international duo with guitarist Bert Lams (of The California Guitar Trio) and a duo based in Italy with drummer Andrea Ruta.

Tom has also toured and recorded with drummer Jerry Marotta, recorded and toured as a guest with the California Guitar Trio, opened for several US and European tours with The Tony Levin Band, performed four times for the Grammys and opened shows for acts like Paula Cole, Andy Summers, Steve Hackett, Carl Palmer, Stickmen, Bill Bruford's Earthworks, Adrian Belew, Tim Reynolds, Tuck and Patti, Asia, Michael Manring, Stanley Jordan, The Dixie Dregs, Larry Carlton and Steve Lukather, Al Dimeola and many others.
