The Museum of Making Music's gala event will help offset the $60,000 annual cost of operating these programs with support coming from silent and live auction items. A wide range of local businesses, individuals, and companies have pledged their contribution through the donation of auction-friendly items such as: a timeshare in Maui, a cabin at Lake Arrowhead, an assortment of instruments, behind the scenes tours of Pixar Studios, professional chef-hosted private parties, hotel vacation packages, and sport event tickets.
Highlights of the fundraiser include a vignette performance by The Bunnell Strings and a full-length concert with renowned Santana vocalist, Greg Walker.
Each performance drives home the impact that music and music making can have in life. An energetic sibling quintet, The Bunnell Strings elicits a tremendous response from audiences for their remarkable interaction as an ensemble and their compelling story of perseverance and hope in the face of loss and tragedy.
Featured performer Greg Walker's mesmerizing voice has elevated such hits as "Black Magic Woman," "Stormy," and "She's Not There." One of the most respected vocalists in the business today, Greg Walker has devoted years of hard work to developing musical integrity and fulfilling his personal artistic goals. Not content to merely sing songs, he is driven to deliver his message, to transmit his emotions, and to transcend stylistic boundaries. One critic observed, "Walker breaks down musical walls." And indeed he does.
Greg's classic vocals speak straight to the soul. In the words of Carlos Santana, Greg Walker's music is a wonderful combination of street and church music; 'street' being raw, sexy, warm and naked; 'church' being spiritual, inspirational, soulful and sincere." His magical ability to interpret a song epitomizes his commitment to melodic beauty, lyrical sensitivity, and sheer sensuality. Audiences and record sales around the world attest to his universal appeal.
Inspired by musical masters and song stylists such as Nat "King" Cole, Johnny Hartman, Sarah Vaughn, and Sam Cooke, Greg started singing at the age of nine. These legendary musicians made an indelible impression on Greg's artistry and style, setting high performance standards in quality musical expression.
Early in his career, Greg's special sound led to an invaluable audition with Carlos Santana. His selection as lead vocalist for The Santana Band increased his artistic freedom and gave him international acclaim. Greg added new life to Santana's most popular material, introduced such hits as the unforgettable Stormy, and demonstrated his songwriting skills as a contributing writer. Touring Europe, Japan, Australia, and the United States, Greg thrilled audiences with his dynamic style and became the focal point of the group's new sound. His talents led Santana into the musical mainstream with three platinum albums; Amigos, Inner Secrets and Moonflower.
Subsequently, Greg became a highly sought-after lead singer for such distinguished musicians and recording artists, such as Herbie Hancock, Kenny G., Jeff Lorber, Rodney Franklin, and Keiko Matsui.
Ever versatile, he has performed with Joan Baez, including a concert performance with the Boston Pops Orchestra, which was taped for a T.V. special. Always one who elevates to personal achievement heights, Greg equally divided his energies between touring and recording his first solo album "Love You So Good", and simultaneously earning his Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts.
Mr. Walker is the recipient of the Los Angeles Music Awards Career Achievement Award, and he maintains an active touring schedule, performing to sold-out venues from London to the Caymen Islands, mesmerizing and enchanting every audience with his sensual and romantic signature vocals. His voice is timeless.
Equally comfortable with the composition and delivery of Adult Contemporary, Jazz, R&B, Gospel and Rock, his diversity defies limitations. A consummate performer, Greg's connection with and appeal to audiences is undeniable.
