K-12: MusicVentures Fieldtrip
The Museum’s MusicVentures Fieldtrip takes students on a musical exploration of the people, historical events and innovations that influenced music making and musical instruments. Led by a trained facilitator, students embark on creative thinking adventure through the instruments on display, sound and video clips, and an interactive activity.
Field trips are open to students of all ages and tours are customized based upon grade level. Tour content is aligned with the California State Visual and Performing Arts Standards.
In addition to the Museum tour, students Grades K-5 participate in a facilitator-led drum circle. Jamming on djembes and bongos, students learn about tone, pitch, dynamics and tempo through hands-on interactive exercises.
Older students, Grades 6-12, spend time in the Museum’s interactive room to experiment with instruments such as the Theremin, electric guitar, organ, banjo, electronic drums, and the Beamz digital music system. This hands-on portion of the fieldtrip encourages students to discover their own place in this ever-changing musical world.
