On Saturday, September 29 at 6 PM, the Museum of Making Music celebrates all things California with a special concert event featuring the innovative, electro-pop sounds of San Francisco musicians Loquat and the tastes of San Diego’s premiere eats and drinks.
Sponsored by Stone Brewing Co. and Harney Sushi, the Loquat concert on Sept. 29 will delight attendees with free sushi and beer, and the shimmering melodies of this musical collective, all to help raise funds for the Museum of Making Music’s educational outreach programs.
The event will also feature a fun California-themed raffle with prizes that include a full set of Cobra Puma golf clubs, original local artwork and more!
Tickets to the event, which begins at 6 p.m., are $50 for general admission and $45 for Museum members.
Loquat has shared the stage with Goldfrapp, Mike Snow, TV on the Radio, The Cardigans and Liz Phair, and has performed at music festivals across the U.S., including SXSW. Through evocative lyrics and ultra-melodic songs, Loquat’s music incorporates elements of new wave, psychedelic rock, indie electronic and jangle-y pop.
Money raised through ticket sales of the Sept. 29 concert with Loquat will help the Museum provide critical access to music through the Doris Carp Memorial Fund and Levi Lipson Fund, which support the Museum’s Music Ventures field trip program and free admission to those experiencing hardship, respectively. Each year, the Museum welcomes thousands of visitors of all ages into its galleries to learn about the dynamic history of music and encourage them to explore their own musical skills on the interactive instrument play areas throughout the Museum.
After releasing a string of well-received albums on various indie labels, Loquat came to the attention of Nacional Records. The group, made up of singer/guitarist Kylee Swenson Gordon, bass player Anthony Gordon, guitarist/singer Chip Cosby, keyboardist Christopher Cooper and drummer Jon Langmead, is gearing up to release a remix EP featuring fresh takes on songs from their latest album, We Could be Arsonists, and includes tracks by Morgan Page, Damian Taylor, Nortec Collective, Dan Sena and Natema Live. Music for your Mouth…Sushi for Your Soul
Harney Sushi cultivated their following of avid sushi lovers at their Old Town savory sushi bar over the past ten years. Even as a “fish out of water” in the predominately Mexican-influenced Old Town, San Diego, Harney Sushi has created a reputation for quality inventive rolls topped with a hip and trendy environment. In 2012, Harney converted their menu to serve sustainable seafood and ingredients. They place unparalleled importance on quality and innovation. In 2008 Harney took their hot spot model to Northern San Diego County and opened a sister restaurant at the up-and-coming Oceanside Pier neighborhood. Harney indulgences include San Diego’s only sake bar, more than 25 award-winning paired wines by the glass, 40 of Japans’ best sakes, a private VIP booth, 35 creative specialty rolls invented by loyalists and our best chefs, and DJ’s spinning the hottest beats which provide the backdrop to the atmosphere. Harney Sushi provides that unique experience and aesthetic that separates the truly progressive from imitators. Music, celebs, and delectable seafood are sure to make anyone declare, “Miso Harney for sushi!”
Harney Sushi is open for lunch Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dinner is served daily from 5:30 p.m. to midnight. Harney is the only sushi spot in San Diego to offer a late night Happy Hour 7 days a week beginning at 10 p.m. and ending only at their closing. On Mondays the cheap sushi deals commence at 5:30 and go all night. The Happy Hour menu offers a variety of rolls for 4 dollars, other Japanese delicacies including miso soup for 1 dollar, and sake drink specials.
A Leader in Craft Brewing
We don’t just make beer; we make craft beer. That means we’re independently owned, comparatively small, and use traditional brewing methods and ingredients. We focus exclusively on making distinctive, high-quality beers that taste nothing like mass-produced lagers. Stone has been recognized by the industry’s leading voices as one of the top brewers in the world. BeerAdvocate Magazine, a highly respected craft beer publication and website, named Stone “All-Time Top Brewery On Planet Earth”—twice. RateBeer.com, a highly trafficked beer enthusiast website, has included Stone Brewing Co. in the top 10 of their “Best Brewers of the World” list for 10 years—making Stone one of only three breweries in the world to earn that honor.
Stone Brewing is one of the principal originators and leaders of the “West Coast” style of brewing, which is known for big character and aggressive hoppiness (hop aroma, flavor, and bitterness). This style has inspired small brewers all over the world to create similarly styled beers. We are honored by the recognition and have often been inspired in return.
