The Museum of Making Music is proud to announce its next special exhibition, The Art of the Stompbox, opening June 1, 2010 and continuing through September 2010. The exhibition will trace the development and use of effects pedals in American rock ’n’ roll, jazz, blues, rock, and the experimental music scene.
The Museum's 10th Anniversary Celebration Series
continues on Friday, September 10 at 7 PM with a concert by composer, guitarist and vocalist Chico Pinheiro. A remarkable international presence, Pinheiro is a leading figure in the contemporary Brazilian music scene. Tickets are $20; $15 for Museum
Members.
At 2 PM the Museum presents a special youth performance in partnership with Center ARTES at Cal State San Marcos. This concert features high school student Bonnie Blackburn performing Chinese traditional and folk melodies on the gu zheng, an ancient Chinese stringed instrument which is part of the zither family. Free, with a $5 suggested donation.
At 7 PM, the Museum presents a special screening of the documentary, "Mellodrama: The Mellotron Movie." After the film is a discussion and Q & A with Dianna Dilworth, the film's director, then musician and author Brian Kehew presents a demonstration of the Mellotron, and Pea Hicks of Optiganally Yours demonstrates the Optigan, a similar optical-based instrument. Tickets are $12; $10 for members.
At 7 PM, composer and poet Steve Willard guides a participating audience in interactive performances featuring voice,
electronic and acoustic instruments, and stompboxes from the
exhibition. Audience members will help to collaboratively compose a
short piece for the assembled group. Tickets are $10, $7 for Museum members.
On
Friday, October 1, 2010 at 7 PM, the Museum presents its Local Flavor
Concert Series featuring talented Blues, Soul, Jazz, and
R&B singer-songwriter Steph Johnson. Tickets are $10 and include beverages and pizza generously sponsored by Stone
Brewing and Knockout Pizza.
